A tradition of excellence since 1918

The year was 1918 and Forrester Pierce was a young 25 year old Physical Education teacher and coach. Woodrow Wilson was President of the United States, the Red Sox took the World Series from the Cubs 2 to 1 in the sixth game and baseball legend Ted Williams was born along with Hollywood star Rin Tin Tin. A postage stamp cost 3 cents, milk was 13 cents a quart, a loaf of bread cost 10 cents and the average cost of a house was $4,821.00.

1918 was also the year that Pierce, America’s first Day Camp was established.

Over 90 years later much has changed, but the early values of "Pop" Pierce as he was later called remain steadfast and unyielding.

His vision was to develop a summer program whereby children could set reasonable goals and then meet them. Design an environment where children could romp and play, sing and dance, swim, dive, laugh and most importantly be kids…

He clearly recognized the need for an organized and orderly physical and creative experience which would allow each child the opportunity for success. A place which would promote freedom and self expression, a safe and special place where each child could boost their self esteem, a place where there was something for everyone and success for all!

That place is Pierce Country Day Camp!

Today, recognized as a national model of day camping in America, Pierce is a place that smiles… a place where spirit soars and laughter roars. And you have our rock solid commitment that we are going to keep it that way for generations to come.

Sorry… It’s just for kids!
