Dear Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in a summer position at Pierce Country Day Camp. What follows is intended to provide you with an overview of some of our staffing policies, required paperwork and procedures. We hope that you find it helpful…
All applicants are required to have a personal interview. Neal Morgenroth our Director oversees all interviewing. Interviews are conducted on a daily basis. Wherever possible please call our office for an appointment at 516-621-2211 ( regular office hours are 8 am to 5 pm, Mon.— Fri. ). Weekend interviews may also be arranged by appointment with Neal.
References are a must! We have enclosed two reference forms to be filled out by your guidance counselor, teacher, former employer etc… No family members or friends. Please bring these reference forms with you at the time of your interview along with any other certifications, award certificates etc…
As part of the interview/hiring process, Pierce will conduct criminal background checks as allowable by law. All applicants will receive a written response informing them of our decision within two weeks of your interview date. (Provided that we have received your two references.)
All contact relative to a position on our staff should be made directly by the applicant. ( No parents, friends etc…)
No position at camp is valid until your contract is returned to you with a Pierce Director’s signature of approval. Contract acceptance is predicated upon mandatory attendance at all pre-camp orientation meetings. A pre camp orientation schedule will be forwarded your way in early Spring. New applicants should realize that there are a number of trends that evolve during our active staffing months. All Pierce staff members from the prior summer who receive favorable/superior ratings will receive seniority status. It does take a few months for us to fully focus on our return rate, and then to determine our needs. At Pierce we enjoy a very high rate of return among our staff. Realize that each year the number of applicants far outnumber the positions available, and that we always strive to be as selective as possible with our talented applicant pool. Applicants applying for General Counselor positions should be high school seniors ( class of ‘06 ) as a minimum, and those interested in Group Leader or Specialty Head positions must be college graduates.
The mission statement here at Pierce is Children… FIRST! It is short, sweet & unwavering! Our goal is to line up the most enthusiastic, inter-active and spirited staff to be found. Towards this goal we continually strive! Again, we genuinely thank you for your interest in our summer camp program.
Best Personal Regards,
Doug Pierce, Forrester Pierce, & Neal Morgenroth
